Meet A Local Customer – Dubbo Powerhouse
We love supporting local businesses! Each issue, we have a yarn with a customer from one of our wholesale members.
Meet Michael Rohr from Rohr Electrical who is a customer at Dubbo Powerhouse.
What do you like most about your local wholesaler?
I have found that at Dubbo Powerhouse, nothing is ever an issue. I have a great relationship with them and appreciate their support and willingness to help no matter how big or small the job is.
Has there been a standout moment they’ve helped you out?
When I was first starting out, they offered me great service and support, along with great pricing – which is hard in the initial stages of business.
What’s the most difficult job you’ve ever had?
I was working in Brisbane as a maintenance electrician travelling to multiple jobs a= day. The traffic was enough for me.
What has been your most memorable day at work?
Any day that you can either make clients happy with your work or employees happy with their own work gets a spot in the memory bank!
Who’s the worst apprentice/ colleague you’ve had, and why?
I think all apprentices turn up initially with reasons or excuses as to why they could be the worst! Time and willingness to adapt and learn decide whether they make it or not.
What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened on a job?
I spent a year working in Brisbane after I finished my apprenticeship. I was in the roof space in the kitchen of a jail where I thought the prison guard was ‘guarding’ the ladder and manhole. An inmate popped his head up through the manhole and asked, “Hey brah, anywhere to get out up there?”
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever encountered?
On the same job in the same week there was a lockdown in the prison due to some rioting and I was locked in a storage room for two hours.
What’s the biggest %&$* up that someone else made that you’ve had to make right?
I’ve seen a few but I will say solar installs and loose switchboard connections.
What’s the best nickname you’ve ever heard a co-worker have?
A security cabler had a speech impediment and was a pretty rough tradie who would cut random holes in gyprock and cover them with a blank plate. He scored the nickname “Bwank Pwate”.
