Emergency lighting: Why it matters today than ever – and how innovation is raising the bar
Emergency lighting is one of the most critical yet often overlooked components of building safety. In high risk moments – power loss, fire incidents, or evacuation scenarios – visibility becomes lifesaving. Modern standards such as AS/NZS 2293 set strict requirements, and the industry keeps shifting toward products and systems that enhance reliability, sustainability, and easy deployment.
One of today’s strongest trends is compact, integrated, and installation-friendly emergency luminaires. Designers, consultants, and contractors are seeking to improve aesthetics and reduce onsite labour while meeting compliance needs. As building environments become more architecturally refined, traditional emergency fittings are giving way to sleek, discreet solutions that blend seamlessly into ceilings and exposed structures.
Against this backdrop, Legrand’s Integrated Satellite range, launching March 2026, represents a significant step forward. The new design consolidates the head, electronics, and battery into a single compact housing, eliminating many pain points – including loose powerpacks, excess cabling, and complex mounting steps.
Installers drill a single hole, slide the unit in, and connect power, reducing installation time from minutes to moments.
“The range includes recessed and surface-mount variants, offering flexibility across gyprock ceilings, concrete slabs, car parks, and architecturally exposed environments. Feedback from contractors and consultants confirms strong demand for the improved aesthetics, simplified commissioning, and enhanced cable management features built into the redesign,” said Legrand’s R&D Director, Paul Barron.
Sustainability has also been engineered into the product with 75% recycled plastic, 30% reduction in product weight, and eliminating metal heatsinks to lower its CO₂ footprint.
As emergency lighting trends continue toward efficiency, design harmony, and responsible manufacturing, Legrand’s Integrated Satellite is future-ready for safety professionals looking to modernise Australia and New Zealand’s emergency lighting landscape.
