Introducing Alco’s corrugated conduit: built for Australia

Across Australia, the overriding sentiment is that we prefer Australian-made products.

We’d rather support Australian businesses, and we understand and appreciate it when our money goes back into the local economy. We like it when our money helps support and keep Australian jobs.

And it’s not an idealistic notion – it’s rooted in a deep understanding of what is needed to keep our local communities flourishing, and the stats bear it out.

Research conducted by Roy Morgan in 2025 showed that 73% of Australians are willing to buy more Australian-made products to reduce reliance on imports, and 72% are willing to pay more for locally made goods. Additionally, 84% are more likely to buy a product if they know it is Australian-made, and 89% believe more manufacturing should be done in Australia.

It was with knowledge such as this that the team at Alco, which is part of Klein Tools Australia, created its new corrugated conduit range, which is not only made in Australia, but it’s purpose-built for Australia’s unique climate, too.

“Over recent years, both contractors and distributors have voiced a clear preference for products that not only perform reliably but also support Aussie jobs,” says John Blore, Marketing Manager at Klein Tools. “The point of difference here is that it was specifically created to meet the country’s diverse installation environments and performs consistently despite everything our diverse environment throws at it – all backed by the trust of the Made in Australia logo.”

Standing up to industry scrutiny

Of course, long-term sentiment and desire to support Australia-made products are one thing. However, if the product doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, it won’t be purchased – regardless of its origin story.

Alco’s range includes Heavy Duty and Medium Duty corrugated conduit options, providing versatility across all installation types.

“The Heavy-Duty conduit is ideal for underground electrical systems, commercial projects, and industrial environments where additional mechanical protection is essential,” says  John.

“Meanwhile, the Medium Duty conduit is perfect for general electrical installations where flexibility and ease of handling are important, such as residential and light commercial jobs.”

Each product is BEP-certified and fully complies with Australian Standards, providing long-term peace of mind to installers and specifiers for decades.

The conduit, which comes with a 25-year limited warranty, is also impact-resistant, UV-stabilised to withstand extreme sunlight, engineered for strong compression performance, and lead-free for safer handling and environmental care, which performs exceptionally well for solar installations.

Helping build Australia’s tomorrow

Australia’s infrastructure continues to develop at pace, and our underground cable networks now span well over 400,000 kilometres, with tens of thousands of new kilometres of conduit laid each year as energy and broadband infrastructure continue to grow.

Conduit, therefore, is critically important – and every stakeholder needs to have supreme confidence that the conduit used is the best possible option available. And, in Australia, that means conduit built to withstand an incredibly testing environment.

“Only an Aussie can truly know the harsh UV exposure, temperature extremes, and varying soil types that our arid land experiences,” says John.

“By designing and producing the range locally, we know the conduit is fit-for-purpose, whether it’s used on the coast, in the outback, or in urban developments, and for contractors and businesses, it builds faith in the installation lasting the test of time.”

For contractors, too, an expanded range of fittings and accessories is soon to be launched to complement the new range in the future.

“More than 80 products are currently in development, catering to the new demands, materials, and technology solutions that contractors require in an evolving industry,” shares John.

As a contractor, having quality products you can trust is an absolute must – this is a new addition that’s certainly worth checking out.
