Finding electrical contracting tenders in Australia

Finding electrical contracting tenders in Australia

Finding out about tenders is the first step in securing them. Check out the following places where you may find opportunities that are right for you.

Federal Government tenders

These can be the largest and often most stable opportunities, and AusTender – which is the Federal Government’s tender portal – is the place to find projects across defence, infrastructure, energy, transport, digital systems, and major facilities upgrades.

State Government Procurement Portals

Every state/territory has its own tendering platform. These are essential for contractors seeking work in areas including hospitals, schools, public housing, transport infrastructure, energy upgrades and facilities maintenance contracts.

NSW: buy.nsw.gov.au
VIC: tenders.vic.gov.au
QLD: qtenders.epw.qld.gov.au
WA: tenders.wa.gov.au
SA: tenders.sa.gov.au
TAS: tenders.tas.gov.au
NT: tendersonline.nt.gov.au
ACT: tenders.act.gov.au

Local council tenders

Councils regularly put tenders out for jobs, including: electrical maintenance contracts, street lighting, CCTV, EV charging stations, sports field lighting, building upgrades and solar projects.

Search via: Local Government Procurement (LGP)

Many individual council websites have a “Tenders & Procurement” section.

Private Tender Platforms (Construction & Trades)

Ideal for contractors wanting commercial, industrial, residential, and fit-out projects.

TenderLink
Australian Tenders
ICN Gateway (major infrastructure, defence, transport)
EstimateOne (commercial builders & subcontractor packages)
VendorPanel (used by councils, government, and large private firms)

Energy and utilities providers

Electricity networks and utilities regularly release substation upgrades, network maintenance, street lighting contracts, metering and smart-grid installation, and renewable energy project packages.

Check:

Most have a “Procurement” or “Work With Us” portal with upcoming packages.

Major construction companies and Tier 1 builders

They publish subcontractor opportunities for jobs including hospitals, transport projects, universities, data centres and defence facilities.

Check:

Most have subcontractor registration portals and active tender lists.

Mining, resources and industrial

Electrical contractors involved in heavy industrial, mining, and large commercial work should check:

Renewable energy and large-scale solar projects

Australia is in the middle of an energy transition, which presents a huge opportunity for electricians.

Specific platforms:

  • ARENA project listings (Australian Renewable Energy Agency)
  • State renewable energy zones (REZ) procurement portals
(NSW, QLD and VIC all have REZ programs)

Remember – this is by no means an exhaustive list, so do your own homework in your local area to ensure you know about jobs as they crop up!
