Beyond Neutral: Prysmian takes cable sustainability to the next level
October 22, 2026
What if the cables powering our homes, businesses and infrastructure could do more than simply reduce their environmental impact? What if they could achieve a negative carbon footprint before they even leave the factory?
At Prysmian we believe innovation and sustainability should go hand in hand. We are continuously exploring new technologies that make our products more sustainable, without compromising the quality, safety and performance our customers expect.
Beyond Neutral is the latest example of that commitment.
Going beyond low-carbon cables
The cable industry has made significant progress in reducing its environmental footprint, from improving manufacturing efficiency to increasing the use of recycled and lower-carbon materials.
Beyond Neutral takes this a step further. It is an innovative cable technology designed to achieve a negative cradle-to-gate carbon footprint.
In simple terms, cradle-to-gate measures the carbon footprint of a product from the sourcing and processing of raw materials through manufacturing, up until the finished cable leaves the factory.
While traditional low-carbon cables aim to reduce emissions across these stages, Beyond Neutral is designed to achieve an overall negative carbon balance.
This is made possible by optimising the materials used in the cable, including recycled, bio-based and low-carbon materials, while maintaining proven cable designs.
Innovation without added complexity
For contractors, one of the most important aspects of Beyond Neutral is what doesn’t change.
The technology has been developed to integrate into existing cable designs and manufacturing processes, with no impact on electrical or mechanical performance. It does not require new installation procedures or different accessories.
In other words, Prysmian is working to make the cable more sustainable without making the installer’s job more complicated. Selected cable designs can already be manufactured using Beyond Neutral technology. As the availability of sustainable materials grows, the technology has the potential to be extended across more cable families and markets.
Innovation for a more sustainable future
Beyond Neutral is part of Prysmian’s broader commitment to continually challenge how cables are designed and manufactured.
From exploring lower-carbon and recycled materials to developing technologies that support a more circular economy, our goal is to combine sustainability with practical innovation that can work in the real world.
Because as electrification continues to grow, the cables connecting our homes, businesses and infrastructure have an important role to play, not only in powering the transition, but in making that transition more sustainable. To learn more reach out to sales.au@prysmiangroup.com
